General Requirements

General Requirements to Become a CRNA

 

CRNAs must...

  • Graduate from an approved nursing school
  • Hold a current state RN license
  • Complete a minimum of one year in critical care nursing
  • Graduate from a nurse anesthesia education program accrediated by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. All give Illinois programs grant Master's degrees
  • Successfully complete the certification examination administered by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists
  • Comply with the criteria for biennial recertification defined by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists
