General Requirements

General Requirements to Become a CRNA

CRNAs must...

Graduate from an approved nursing school
Hold a current state RN license
Complete a minimum of one year in critical care nursing
Graduate from a nurse anesthesia education program accrediated by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. All give Illinois programs grant Master's degrees
Successfully complete the certification examination administered by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists
Comply with the criteria for biennial recertification defined by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists
