General Requirements to Become a CRNA
CRNAs must...
- Graduate from an approved nursing school
- Hold a current state RN license
- Complete a minimum of one year in critical care nursing
- Graduate from a nurse anesthesia education program accrediated by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. All give Illinois programs grant Master's degrees
- Successfully complete the certification examination administered by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists
- Comply with the criteria for biennial recertification defined by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists
