Hold a
current state RN license

Complete a
minimum of one year in critical care nursing

Graduate from a nurse anesthesia education program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. All five Illinois programs grant master’s degrees.

Successfully
complete the certification examination administered by the AANA
Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.

Comply with the criteria for biennial recertification defined by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
